We are proud to bear the name of the great city of Liverpool, with all its associations of music and culture, learning, sport and enterprise: but the District is much more than the city.
We stretch from Southport in the north to Wirral in the south and include parts of Lancashire and Cheshire to the east. Although predominantly urban, the District does include some rural communities and Churches.

A new North West District
The Methodist Church is undertaking a review which it is hoped will lead to the merger of five existing Districts (Liverpool, Lancashire, Cumbria, Manchester & Stockport and Bolton & Rochdale) into a new North-West District. Methodist churches have responded to the cost-of-living crisis by opening their doors to ensure that communities are not left out in the cold. More than 450 Methodist churches have now registered on the Warm Welcome website as being willing to offer somewhere for people to find heat, comfort and companionship. This makes the Methodists second only to the Church of England in uptake of the scheme. Click the link to read more.
It is a varied and vibrant part of the world filled with much to encourage and excite. And this is true also of the Church, where many faithful people seek to follow the way of Jesus. Across the District, Churches are reaching into their communities in service; new ways of worship and service are being explored; and the District seeks to support and encourage them in this.
In recent years the District has engaged seriously with the issues surrounding our more effective use of the God-given resources available to us in people, time, money and buildings. As a consequence we now comprise 9 Circuits for our, approximately, 6500 Methodist members. This is a process which will need to continue as we seek to be ever more effective in our witness for Jesus Christ and our desire, in all parts of the District, to offer to the communities we serve that hope which is God’s gift to the world in Jesus.
In the Lancashire Methodist District, the rural church of Whalley organised its first Eco Spring Fair on Saturday 11 May 2024. Two rooms were needed to host all the stands promoting a more sustainable way to shop with limited environmental impact.
The Yorkshire North & East Methodist District is one of the five finalists in the category for the People’s Energy in the 2024 Ashden Awards for Climate Solutions for its Tea & PV project and work on climate justice.
On its 7th birthday, Friday 10 May 2024, the Coffee Pot Memory Café in Drighlington Methodist Church officially received its KAVS award, King’s Award for Voluntary Service, a celebration followed on Sunday 12 May by a Celebration Service.
On 19 April 2024, a committee from the Energy Department came to visit Kehelland to assess the impact of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) on the rural village and its Methodist Church. There is no mains gas in the village, so many inhabitants choose to use kerosene-powered boilers for heating.
